WHAT IS BIST?

This is a school-wide Behavior management program that helps students manage their own behavior so they can accept responsibility for their behavior and make appropriate choices. B.I.S.T. increases student learning time, stops disruptive behavior and teaches skills that will lead to success throughout life. The two basic rules are : It's NEVER ok to be disruptive! It's NEVER ok to be hurtful!

Goals for life are: What you will hear from the adults: 5 Steps to Accountablility:

I can take good care of myself even when I am mad.

I can be productive and follow directs even when I don't want to.

I can be okay when others are not.

"How can you be mad and not get into trouble?"

"Can you do what you need to even if you are mad?"

"Can you do what I asked even though you don't want to?"

"Can you be okay even if others are not?"

"It's ok to have a problem. It's not ok to stay stuck in the problem."

"I did it.

" I am sorry."

"It's a problem in my life."

"I accept the consequences."

"I accept help."

Staff work with students to own the behavior, plan ways to change it, and how to support from adults.

Partnering with parents is important! Here's how parents can help:

Talk with your child and reinforce the desired behavior. Encourage your child to accept responsibility for the behavior and make better choices. Show your child how strong the school, teacher and parent partnership is!

Remember:Your child is not in trouble. They are learning a new behavior so there is no need to punish, just ask them what they learned and reinforce that learning.
